Ayushmann Khurrana has built a remarkable career in Bollywood, choosing films that highlight strong social messages. He made his acting debut with Vicky Donor, a film that dealt with the sensitive topic of sperm donation in a fun and engaging manner.
Since then, he has delivered notable performances in Badhaai Ho, Article 15, Dream Girl, Andhadhun, Doctor G, An Action Hero, and many others. Right from the beginning, Ayushmann selected films that challenged societal stereotypes and outdated beliefs—making him one of the most influential actors in the industry today.
Inspired by ‘Tezaab’ to Become an Actor
Along with acting, Ayushmann is equally talented in music and is known for his soulful singing. He is also recognized as a successful television host. Now 40 years old, he was born in Chandigarh, India.
It was his grandmother who first inspired his love for acting—she would mimic legendary actors like Raj Kapoor and Dilip Kumar at home. At the age of six, Ayushmann visited the theatre with his parents to watch Tezaab, starring Anil Kapoor and Madhuri Dixit. That very day, he decided he wanted to become an actor.
He later pursued theatre studies at Panjab University, actively participating in stage plays and street dramas. In the early days, Ayushmann was afraid to go on stage and struggled to speak in front of an audience. To boost his confidence, his father encouraged him to sing and dance at every birthday celebration. With continuous practice, he eventually overcame his stage fright.
Failures That Led Him to His True Inner Voice
At the beginning of his career, Ayushmann faced several rejections in auditions due to his thick eyebrows and strong Punjabi accent. With no acting work, he turned to radio and became a radio jockey. During this time, he participated in MTV Roadies in 2004. He did not succeed in his first try, but he went on to win the second season.
After that, he moved into television hosting, which kept his career moving forward. The year 2012 became a turning point when Vicky Donor, directed by Shoojit Sircar, became a massive hit.
However, some of his next films—Nautanki Saala, Bewakoofiyan, and Hawaizaada—did not perform well. Through these ups and downs, Ayushmann realized an important truth:
Even films by experienced directors can fail, and films by newcomers can become superhits.
He also understood that there are no fixed rules in this industry. Instead of listening to others, he started trusting his inner voice. From that moment on, his film choices began connecting with audiences again.

Director and friend Raaj Shaandilyaa describes Ayushmann as a highly sensible artist who understands music, script, and content deeply. According to him, an actor is not defined only by makeup and photos with fans. A true artist carries a responsibility—to deliver meaningful messages to society.
