Rachana Rimal, one of Nepal’s most talented young singers, has captured the hearts of music lovers across the nation. Known for her melodious voice and charming personality, Rimal has risen to fame quickly, yet she continues to focus on building a long-lasting musical career.

    Early Life and Musical Beginnings

Rachana Rimal was born as the second child in her family in Chandragadhi, Jhapa. Her mother used to sell snacks from a mobile shop, while her father, once employed abroad, now drives an autorickshaw. Despite humble beginnings, her parents always encouraged her passion for singing.

Rimal began singing hymns from an early age and participated in school competitions. At just four years old, she won her first singing competition, receiving a diary and Rs 500 as a prize. Her interest in music only grew with time, inspired by legendary Nepali singers like Tara Devi, Aruna Lama, and Bhaktaraj Acharya.

Her early talent caught the attention of a school dance teacher who often recorded Rimal singing. These videos, shared online, received widespread appreciation. She even earned a harmonium as a prize in an online competition, marking the start of her serious musical journey.

While helping her mother at the snack shop, Rimal’s singing caught the attention of YouTubers who shared her videos, giving her the nickname “Chatpatewali Singer” and gaining popularity online.

    Turning Point in Her Career

Rimal’s breakthrough came when musician Basanta Sapkota discovered her Facebook videos. Impressed by her voice, he invited her to Kathmandu to record Rumal Chino, composed and penned by Sapkota. At the time, Rimal was in class 10.

Encouraged by fans, she auditioned for Nepal Idol and reached the top eight after scoring the highest votes three times. Although she did not win, her popularity skyrocketed, opening doors for opportunities like singing in Photo Firimma. Shishir Bhandari, preparing for a new song, received widespread fan recommendations for Rimal, leading her to record the song.

    Rise to Fame

Rachana Rimal’s songs such as Mineral Water, Pahilo Palta Bhet Huda, Sunana Piyari, Chahanchhu, Paani Chhamkine, Bhana Saila, and Unko Preeti (with Pravin Bedwal, penned by Madhav Prasad Ghimire) became instant hits. In less than two years, her voice has featured in over a thousand songs, a remarkable feat for someone just 18 years old at the time.

Her popularity extends beyond recordings. Rimal actively performs on stage, attending fairs and festivals. Fans from across Nepal and even abroad travel long distances to meet her, gifting her items ranging from fruit baskets to perfumes and lockets. She says,
